Tea Encounter

The tea pavilion created for madeinroath 2017 will be an immersive space within which artist Tessa Waite will offer one visitor at a time a cup of tea. A simple tea ceremony performed within the space will offer the visitor full attention, and the possibility for quiet contemplation and connection. In doing so the person is valued and cherished. The concepts behind the Japanese tea ceremony - such as the act of giving from the heart – alongside other tea ceremonies or rituals that are common to many cultures form the basis of this work. Participating in the tea encounter would offer possible connections to the rituals of those who participate, both past and present. It is also about creating a simple yet stimulating shelter within which participants can step out of their daily life and experience an act of giving and receiving.
