Beyond Borders explores how creativity can encourage debate about asylum with local and refugee families using the shoreline, the unique language of clay and a multidisciplinary cast: musicians / storytellers / illustrators / poets / archaeologists and representatives from the refugee council come together to inform and inspire!
Our journey will begin with a ‘Big Draw’ event, as families explore the very thing that unites us with every human being across the globe – the earth beneath our feet. Using drawing as a conversational tool we will record our encounters, of stories of journeying and the relief of seeing land come into view, to being scientists testing the magnetic pull of the planet, to investigating the earths embedded histories and learning about environmental art.
These drawings – notations / thoughts – will form part of the exhibition: ‘Things we share’.
Come, be part of this on-going venture by attending drawing and sensory story-telling workshops, contributing to an on-going installation of modelled ‘objects’ that would be taken on a journey across land and sea, and hear artists speak at our ‘sharing event’ discussing how creativity can alight curiosity and awareness of issues often too politicized or complex to raise in other ways.
