Lucille Junkere is an artist, educator and textiles researcher specialising in plant colours and embroidery. Her recent research focusses on the legacy of colonialism on African Caribbean textile history exploring the idea of reconnections. In April 2017 she completed a Winston Churchill Fellowship  to study indigo dyeing and pattern making amongst Yorùbá artisans in Nigeria, building upon her work as Artist in Residence at the William Morris Gallery London.

Lucille undertook her residency at 1A in July/Aug 2018, Indigo Blues, a consolidation of her research in Nigeria, – the space at 1a was transformed into an indigo dying studio and textile stall, you can see more about the project on her website here.
