Umulkhayr Mohamed

Umulkhayr Mohamed

Umulkhayr Mohamed is a Welsh Somali writer and artist, who also produces work under the alias, Aisha Ajnabi, their art other. Her artistic practice involves primarily artist moving image, poetry and performance work that explores the tension present between enjoying the act of wandering between emancipatory temporalities and a functional need to position oneself in the now. She sees her art as a way of clarifying otherwise cloudy feelings about duality through a process of poetic distillation.

During her Made in Roath residency, Umulkhayr will be working on developing an artist moving image piece, exploring themes of personal disordered relationships with food and belonging, through invited conversations over the (un)sharing of a meal. This work in progress is a part of a larger ongoing body of work entitled, The People’s Pride, that unpicks the many faces of pride, as it relates to the self and others.
