Picasso said, ‘To draw you must close your eyes and sing.’ In this workshop, visitors will be invited to follow Picasso’s advice and paint a tile with their eyes closed while humming or singing their favourite song. This is a great way to overcome the inhibitions of conscious control such as ‘I can’t draw’, or ‘I don’t know what to draw,’ and was used by artists such as The Surrealists to access the unconscious/imagination. Each tile will form part of a collaborative artwork – a path of abstract mark making – that will fill the space, and extend outside. Participants will be able to collect their artwork at the end of the festival.
