Originally from Trinidad, I have been resident in Wales since 2003. My current preoccupation is the Trinidad Carnival experimenting with different ways of engaging manifestations of this performance in diverse spaces. Of particular interest to me is the idea of masking to reveal alternative often subdued aspects of ‘self’ and the idea of wearing or performing stories of personal, social, political relevance in public spaces.

‘Presence’ develops a drawing performance that utilizes public outdoor spaces to insert re-presentations of aspects of self. Here I consider questions around visibility/invisibility, belonging and un-belonging and the significance of a post Brexit protest in a space that appears already disenfranchised and at times irritated by immigrant presences.

This work is interested in public ‘in-between’ places exploring both the drawing/painting of self-representations and the very public performance of doing the act of drawing/painting.
