This exhibition brings together a body of work
This exhibition brings together a body of work by the Welsh artist Ron Jones (1926 – 2015). His paintings depict incidents from his childhood in Aberfan in the 1930s. His early memories had a massive influence on his subsequent artistic work. They portray an optimistic view of village life before the tragic events that befell that village three decades later. Many of his school friends portrayed in his pictures lost children in the disaster.
During his final decade, Ron’s output was prolific. He called this work his “Unspent Youth”. They include a large, multi-paneled, work which is exhibited for the very first time. It is hoped that this particular work will find a lasting home in South Wales after the exhibition. www.thegate.org.uk
