The Valley Project is an ongoing series documenting thriving communities in South Wales Valleys. Villages in the valleys have been named the most poverty stricken places in the UK and with up to 50% of it’s young residents unemployed. This has been an issue since the pit closures and continues to offer few opportunities for the generations who came after the industrial boom. These photos show how members of the community are fighting back this stigma and individuals who are proud of their environment. Abercynon is a prime example of this, this small village in the Rhondda Cynon Taff has a strong community which has continuous efforts to provide opportunities with various approaches from it’s popular library to their well loved all male choir. The subjects within my photos are from relationships, not by passers, my ultimate rule when approaching this sensitive situation is to gain the trust of my sitter.
